Yurkievich was born in Paris in 1972, of French and Argentine decent, and he says he draws his inspiration from Vogue magazine and his personal idol Madonna. Yurkevich interned with Thierry Mugler in 1992, moved on to Jean Paul Gaultier a year later, and then served a short stint as French designer Jean Colonna's assistant before launching his first collection in 1995. In 1998, the young designer received funding from ANDAM, an organization set up by the French Ministry of Culture to support fledgling designers, and with this he was able to show his first collection in Paris. His designs are usually focused on shape and are often characterized as long, lean and sharp. His mood is glamorous with a youthful edge. |
