Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren have been designing together since 1993. Both were born in the Netherlands in 1969 and they teamed up after graduating from the Academy of the Arts in Arhem. Since their first showing in Paris the haute couture label has been revered for their extravagant artistic construction and unconventional appearance. Their designs are feted for their recognizable cuts and original proportions (think oversized shirt collars and sleeves as well as bed pillows attached to gowns behind the models' heads). Viktor & Rolf are much more than just a couple of guys creating beautiful and interesting clothes, they are all about making a statement: they went on strike (a personal rebellion against the pressure to create a new collection every six months), have created a documentary ("Because we're worth it!" portrays a year in the career of Viktor & Rolf) and produced a couture collection based on the atomic bomb (they sent suits with mushroom cloud-like silhouettes complete with balloons and inner tubes down the runway). And staying true to form, their first scent, Flowerblomb, was just banned from the Oslo airport because of security concerns (the bottle is the shape of a hand grenade). |
