Zaldy Goco started his career in the early 1990s as New York club fixture known for his over-the-top drag extravaganzas. His nightlife performances eventually segued into a legitimate career in fashion design and he has been producing collections under his namesake for the past five years.
He was also recently anointed head designer of Gwen Stefani’s fashion label L.A.M.B. Zaldy grew up spending a lot of time with his grandmother who ran her own fashion school in the Philippines. After studying at Parsons in Los Angeles and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Zaldy and makeup artist Mathu Anderson teamed up and kick-started their fashion careers on the NYC nightclub circuit.
Before long Zaldy’s designs caught the eye of event producer Suzanne Bartsch, who began to book Zaldy and Anderson on a regular basis. Their careers exploded and Zaldy knew the next logical step was to create his own couture line. His work on the nightlife scene also led to collaborations and image consulting with companies such as Donna Karan and the cosmetics and skincare giant Shiseido.
Zaldy believes in “creating strong pieces that remain approachable and non-threatening or overbearing. Easy and uncomplicated, comfortable without being dull.” Zaldy’s client roster includes Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, Shakira, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
